I also dislike the “open format” of all the actors “auditoning” in front of each other. But teaching acting is not in their discipline, and be wary of “acting workshops” with CDs. Besides Stuart Aikins (now retired) and Jason Knight in Toronto, I've known none who could.being a casting director does not qualify you to teach the process…certainly after years of watching auditions, they know whats’ good and bad…and certainly they are EXPERTS in how casting works and how actors should approach auditions. Where I get itchy is when casting people say they are “TEACHING” acting to actors.

Here’s the thing: Actors have next to no way to meet casting directors if their reps aren’t pulling their weight. And many actors all over hate and resent casting workshops because it feels like a pay-to-play. There were arrests in LA two weeks ago for casting directors (some big names) being charged for "pay-to-play practices", meaning explicitly making it clear that you might get an audition for a certain project through the workshop.
